Singer Beyonce, who recently was in the spotlight for sporting skin that was paler than usual, was photographed wearing black face make-up for an African inspired magazine shoot. Beyonce, 29, took inspiration from African culture and wore head wraps as well as tribal-style clothing and accessories for the shoot for French fashion magazine L’Officiel Paris’ 90th-anniversary issue.
L’Officiel has said in a statement that Beyonce was “paying homage to African queens” and as a “return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened”. “As for the artistic make-up, the inspiration came from several African rituals during which paint is used on the face,” the Daily Mail quoted the magazine as saying.
“We find the images beautiful and inspiring. The designs are all reflective of the African influence on fashion this season. Miss Knowles poses with royal allure. A queen, a goddess, Beyonce is a bombshell beauty with a divine voice,” it added.

Beyonce is facing another backlash from Islamic groups - conservative Muslims in Egypt fear her upcoming concert will threaten the country's "social peace and stability".
The Crazy In Love superstar is due to take her I Am... world tour to the mostly Muslim nation on Friday (06Nov09).
But strict Islamic groups have complained to the government for allowing the show to go ahead, branding it an "insolent sex party".
In a letter to authorities, a representative for opposition group Muslim Brotherhood writes, "Why are you encouraging this insolent sex party? You are accused of disturbing social peace and stability, encouraging viceand debauchery".

The criticism mirrors similar outrage in Malaysia last month (Oct09), when Muslim leaders led protests against Beyonce's sexy on-stage antics.
The star subsequently scrapped her concert in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
However, the Egyptian event organiser has dismissed the criticisms - insisting not all Muslims are offended by Beyonce's performances.
Ahmed Beltagi says, "We are Muslims too... this will not stop Egypt from hosting an award-winning, first class artist. We should salute her instead of criticising her".
Beyonce attends a meet and greet for Japanese handbag designer Samantha Thavasa at Studio Mouris Roppongi in Tokyo, Japan on Friday (October 16).
The 28-year-old R&B singer is on the last legs of her “I Am” world tour and is currently performing in Asia with a few concerts in Japan followed by performances in China.

Actress Megan Fox has topped Heat magazine's ‘Most Envied Bodies 2009’ list. The Transformers star was followed by Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, who came second.

Beyonce has been threatened with a $1 million (£666,600) lawsuit after pulling out of a New York nightclub show.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker was set to perform at the Big Apple's M2 on Saturday (20Jun09) after the establishment's owner Joey Morrissey agreed to pay her $200,000 (£133,300) for the gig.
But the pop princess suddenly axed the appearance on Wednesday (17Jun09), with her representatives claiming she was too busy preparing for her North American tour.
Beyonce's reps instead offered an hour-long personal appearance from the star at the club - but Morrissey claims he has already spent $100,000 preparing for the singer's show.
He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, They said they were too busy with the launching of the tour and that they wouldn't have time to do the kickoff party.
"We sold tables for thousands of dollars for the show, and spent $100,000 renting a soundboard and other equipment, as per their stipulations. What good does her showing up for an hour do me?
They've been totally unwilling to agree to another show. Morrissey is now threatening to file suit against Beyonce over the cancellation, claiming the club has suffered a loss of reputation in addition to his lost cash.
He adds, We had an overwhelming response from our clubgoers, who were lining up to buy tickets and tables. This will come as a great disappointment to all of them. If Beyonce cancels and doesn't give us a new date, this hurts our credibility in nightlife.
