Britney Spears makes History With Hold It Against me

Britney Spears has secured her place at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot100 after breaking records with her new track Hold It Against ME.

The pop superstar garnered the highest number of U.S. radio plays ever in one day when she debuted the song last week (10Jan11), and she has gone on to score her fourth number one single in America.

Spears sold over 411,000 downloads of the track in the week since its release - the highest ever for a female artist, breaking the record of 325,000 digital sales set by Taylor Swift's Today Was A Fairytale last year (10).

Hold It Against Me came in at number one, followed by Bruno Mars' Grenade at two and Katy Perry's Firework at three.

The top five is rounded out by Rihanna and Drake with What's My Name? and Wiz Khalifa's Black And Yellow.

Britney Spears makes secret calls to her ex‎

Pop star Britney Spears is making secret phone calls to ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib.

The singer, who dated the British photographer for about three months, has contacted her ex-love in recent weeks.

"She says she's not living the life she wants. She really wants to get back together with Adnan," femalefirst quoted a source as saying.

If she has made contact with her ex-love, it goes against the restraining order placed upon Ghalib and her former manager Sam Lutfi in January 2009, after the duo were allegedly found plotting to take over her affairs.

Spears has been dating her former manager Jason Trawick, 38, since March 2009.

The 'Womanizer' singer - who is known for wearing revealing, skin-flashing outfits on stage - has penned a track called '3' which suggests she likes being intimate with two lovers at the same time.

This is not the first time Britney's career has taken a provocative twist.

The 27-year-old star - who as a teenager said she wouldn't have sex before marriage - is currently on the road with her steamiest world tour to date.

It has been very quiet on the Britney Spears front, but now she's hitting the news again. Britney decided not to bring her sons to Russia during her tour, after she was reportedly left very upset by several death threats. Britney has been travelling through Europe with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James as she is performing her live Circus show across the continent. Britney has been inundated with a series of threatening e-mail messages, and now she is refusing to bring her sons with her as she played her first ever show in Russia, leaving them with family members in London. Spears also decided against staying in the country herself, spending the night in Finland and jetting to St Petersburg. Britney will fly back to Moscow to perform at the capital tomorrow, before taking her private jet back to London to be with her boys. A tour spokesperson reportedly told British newspaper The Sun, "Originally, both boys were to accompany Britney but she was against taking them because of these constant threats."

Michael Jackson advised Britney to quit singing

A few weeks before his death, Michael Jackson reportedly advised Britney Spears to retire from the music industry to focus on life with her family.

The late 'Thriller' star - who died of a suspected cardiac arrest on June 25 - reportedly telephoned the 'Toxic' hitmaker and warned her not to 'end up' like him.

"Michael told her, 'Don't end up like me.' His warning was eerie, like he was trying to tell Britney he was going to die," Contactmusic quoted a friend of Britney as saying.

The source told Britain's Look magazine, "I think Michael's warning sent shivers down Britney's spine. He was emphatic in warning her she should leave showbusiness in order to maintain her sanity. He thought she should retire after the 'Circus' tour so she could focus on the things that mattered - her sons and family. Britney must have taken Michael's words to heart as she promised him she would at least take a long break after she finished the tour," the source added.

Jackson and Spears had remained friends since they famously performed 'The Way You Make Me Feel' together at Michael's 30th anniversary celebration concert in New York's Madison Square Garden in 2001.

Britney walks off stage over marijuana smoking fans

Despite having a history full of drug and alcohol abuse, Britney Spears recently walked off stage only because she made to feel uncomfortable by fans smoking marijuana during one of her ‘Circus’ gig.

The ‘Toxic’ hit-maker stormed off after three songs, and did not return for 40 minutes at Vancouver’s GM Place, Canada.

A loudspeaker announcement was later made, sternly asking the 19,000-strong audience to extinguish all their smokes if they wanted Britney to return.

Baffled gig-goers booed the star in chorus, while it was claimed that pot smoke had been detected around the stage, which made it “unsafe” for the star to perform.

Britney finally returned to a huge applause, but ended the two-hour show with a rather odd message.

“Thanks Vancouver, you were wonderful. Drive safe. Don’t smoke weed,” the Sun quoted her as telling the audience.

While Britney has battled mental health problems in the past, her mom Lynne, 54, has said that the pop princess began experimenting with drugs aged 15.

At the age of 16, she was caught with cocaine and marijuana on a private jet.

“Everyone was really confused when she walked off so early on, especially with her track record for going off the rails,” a source said.

“Britney was furious backstage, claiming smoke from cigarettes and joints was making it impossible to perform.

“Telling the crowd not to smoke weed after she kept them waiting for so long wasn’t her best move,” the source added.

The 27-year-old star’s representatives said that the gig came to a halt midway as crewmembers became sick because of the smoke.
